Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.Patients aged 18 to 70 years 2.ASA physical status 1 and 2 3.Scheduled for elective lumbar spine surgery requiring prone positioning 4.Informed written consent obtained

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. ASA physical status 3 or above 2. Pre existing pulmonary disease 3. Significant cardiovascular disease 4. Obesity defined as BMI greater than 35 5. Emergency surgery 6. Severe hepatic or renal impairment
