Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1)Group O SDAP units collected as double yield platelet donation 2)Units processed and stored as per departmental standard protocols 3No prior PAS addition in SDAP units before baseline sampling 4)Non O group patients requiring SDAP transfusion with non- availability of group specific donors

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Group O SDAP collected as single yield platelet donation Units with visible clots or red cell contamination SDAP units of A, B and AB (ABO blood group) Units with incomplete data or technical issues during procedure

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
1 Proportion of Group O SDAP units with baseline antiA andor antiB titres exceeding predefined thresholds: IgM more than 1 in 4, IgG more than 1 in 8.Timepoint: 1 Proportion of Group O SDAP units with baseline antiA andor antiB titres exceeding predefined thresholds: IgM more than 1 in 4, IgG more than 1 in 8.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Measured reduction in titre levels (IgM & IgG antiA & Anti B) at same day of collection Percentage of units achieving target safety thresholds ( anti A & Anti B (IgM less than or equal to 1 in 4 & IgG less then & equal to 1 in 8). Optimal ratio & volume of PAS required to reduce titres to acceptable levels Number of PAS treated group O SDAPs used for ABO incompatible transfusions Potential reduction in group-specific donor dependency. Frequency & nature of adverse transfusion reactions, if any Comparison between IgM & IgG titre reduction patterns in response to PAS dilution Timepoint: -
