Intervention1: INTRAVENOUS DEXMEDETOMIDINE: Loading dose -0.5 mcg /kg Iintravenous dexmedetomidine diluted to 100 ml NS before giving spinal anaesthesia followed by a maintainence dose of 0.3 mcg/kg/h

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients aged 18-65 years 2.Patients of either gender 3. Patients with American Society of Anesthesiologists Physical Status (ASA PS ) 1,2 4.Patients scheduled for elective surgeries under subarachnoid block with surgical duration less than 3 hours

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Patients not willing to give consent 2.Body mass index more than 30 kg/m2 3.Patients with known allergy to study drugs 4.Patients with uncontrolled systemic diseases 5.Patients with coagulation disorders 6.Pregnant and Lactating mothers

MeasureTime frame
To compare the duration of motor block between two study groups using modified Bromage scaleTimepoint: Motor block will be assessed for every 2 min till modified bromage 3 / maximum motor blockade was obtained and for every 15 min till full recovery of motor block—

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. To compare the sensory block characteristics between the two groups 2.To compare hemodynamic parameters ( heart rate , systolic blood pressure , diastolic blood ptressure , mean arterial blood pressure ) 3.To compare sedation scores between the two groups using Ramsay Sedation score 4.To study any other adverse affects found during the study period .Timepoint: 1. Assessment of sensory block - Every 1 min for first 10 minutes , for every 5 min for 1st hour and thereafter every 15 minutes intraoperatively and post operatively till complete regression 2. Hemodynamic parameters will be assessed for every 10 minutes for 1st hour and thereafter every 15 minutes till the end of surgery 3.Sedation scores will be assessed every 20 minutes for the first 4 hours of duration—
