Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Children aged 2 to 6 years diagnosed with sickle cell disease (SCD). 2. Children presenting for blood transfusion, attending outpatient follow-up, or admitted for complications associated with SCD. 3. Willingness of parents/guardians to provide informed consent for the child to participate. 4. Children with no history of significant neurological disorders other than SCD.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Children with a history of significant neurological disorders (e.g., brain tumors, cerebral palsy) unrelated to sickle cell disease. 2. Children who have had previous brain surgery or major neurological interventions. 3. Children with an inability to undergo a transcranial Doppler (TCD) assessment due to anatomical issues or excessive movement. 4. Children who are not clinically stable or have acute complications requiring immediate medical attention (e.g., Acute chest syndrome or acute stroke requiring intensive care). 5. Children with contraindications to undergoing transcranial Doppler, such as recent head trauma or known vascular malformations. 6. Children whose parents or guardians refuse or withdraw consent during the study period.

1.To measure cerebral blood flow velocities in major intracranial arteries using transcranial Doppler in children aged 2 6 years with sickle cell disease. 2.To identify structural brain abnormalities, if any, associated with sickle cell disease in the study population. 3.To determine the prevalence of abnormal transcranial Doppler velocity patterns based on established risk thresholds. 4.To assess the presence and pattern of collateral cerebral circulation in children with sickle cell disease.Timepoint: To measure cerebral blood flow velocities in major intracranial arteries using transcranial Doppler in children aged 2 6 years with sickle cell disease.
