Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: All Acute Brain Injury patients admitted to ICU and who are Initiated on invasive mechanical ventilation within 48 hrs of injury to brain and expected to be maintained for at least 48 hours.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1.Refusal of consent 2.Preexisting known cardiac illness, renal disease (serum creatinine more than 1.5 mg/dl) 3.Any pre-existing lung pathologies or injuries like rib fractures with contusion, or initial blood gasses (done within 6 hours of NICU admission) showing PaO2/FiO2 less than 200. 4.Intubated and referred to from other hospitals. 5.Pregnant women
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| To compare the trends of Thoracic fluid content(TFC) and Lung ultrasound score(LUS) in Acute brain injury(ABI) with or without lung injury (PaO2/FiO2 less than 300) during the first weekTimepoint: Day_0,Day_1,Day_2,Day_3,Day_4,Day_5,Day_6,Day_7 | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| To examine the correlation between TFC and LUS during the first week Timepoint: Day_0,Day_1,Day_2,Day_3,Day_4,Day_5,Day_6,Day_7;To evaluate the predictive value of daily TFC and LUS measurements for the occurrence of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in mechanically ventilated ABI patients during the first weekTimepoint: Day_0,Day_1,Day_2,Day_3,Day_4,Day_5,Day_6,Day_7;To investigate the association between changes in lung compliance and daily variations in TFC and LUS during the first weekTimepoint: Day_0,Day_1,Day_2,Day_3,Day_4,Day_5,Day_6,Day_7;To find out if the dynamic correlation coefficient between cardiac index (CI) and TFC predicts the development of lung injuriesTimepoint: Day_0,Day_1,Day_2,Day_3,Day_4,Day_5,Day_6,Day_7 | — |
