Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria 1. Newly diagnosed male and female patients of age group of 18-45 years presenting with moderate to severe acne (GAGS score more then 19). 2. Patients who are willing to give written informed consent to participate in the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria 1. Patients with mild acne (GAGS score more then19) 2. Patients with history of diabetes mellitus 3. Female patient on oral contraceptive pills. 4. Patient with history of sensitivity to doxycycline, metformin or benzoyl peroxide. 5. Pregnant and lactating females.

Primary objective To assess the efficacy of metformin as an add on therapy to doxycycline and benzoyl peroxide for treatment of patients with moderate to severe acne vulgaris by assessing Global Acne Grading System (GAGS) score, Investigator Global Assessment for Acne (IGA) score, Burke and Cunliffe Total Acne Score and Cardiff Acne Disability Index (CADI). Timepoint: Follow up will be done at baseline, 2nd, 4th, 6th,and 8th week—

To evaluate the effect of metformin when used as an add on therapy to doxycycline and benzoyl peroxide on serum lipid profile, random blood sugar and body mass index in patients with moderate to severe acne vulgaris. 2. To evaluate the safety of metformin when used as an add on therapy to doxycycline and benzoyl peroxide in patients with moderate to severe acne vulgaris.
