Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Adult patients admitted in ICU having bew onset thrombocytopenia

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1)Low platelet count because of major hemorrhage 2)Known cases of platelet function disorders. 3)Patients on antiplatelet drugs 4)Family history of bleeding disorders 5)Patients with chronic liver/kidney disease 6)Known case of bleeding disorders.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To understand the variation in platelet transfusion requirement in critically ill patients through individualized transfusion support.Timepoint: At the time of each episode of thrombocytopenia or before platelet transfusion (within 24 hours of ICU admission or thrombocytopenia detection)

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1) Establishing the causes of thrombocytopenia in critical care. 2) Analyzing the utility of thrombo-elastography in determining the platelet transfusion requirement in thrombocytopenia in critical care. 3) Identifying the predictability of platelet transfusions from thrombo-elastography & platelet indices parameters 4) To determine the indications & requirements for platelet transfusion in these cases. Timepoint: 1 at the time of diagnosis of thrombocytopenia day 0 or day1 of ICU stay 2 during ICU stay monitored daily or at each transfusion event 3 At the end of ICU stay or discharge
