Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Participants with active TB presenting to the research sites Adults and adolescents more than 15 years of age Mtb positive by a NAAT assay on sputum, with RR (MDR arm), or negative for RR (non-MDR arm) Able to provide a second sample for sputum Provides informed consent to participate Close contacts Contacts of participants with active TB who are Adults or adolescents aged more than 15 years Exposed to an active TB participant for more than 8 hours/week for one or more weeks between Symptom onset and treatment initiation, or for 12 Weeks for any time per week
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Candidates with active TB Too ill to carry on a conversation or Unable to provide consent for study procedures including a blood draw, chest X-ray, and a TB sample including sputum Contacts Contact with a smear negative or culture negative or non-pulmonary active TB participant We will exclude contacts who have already been diagnosed with active TB or previously recruited into the study but will record their linkage to participants with active TB We will exclude contacts with a history of prior TB within two years of the time of recruitment to more easily identify chains of transmission
