Intervention1: Dexmedetomidine 2 mcg with 0.75% hyperbaric ropivacaine: 3.0 ml of 0.75% hyperbaric ropivacaine + 2 mcg dexmedetomidine (diluted in 0.5 ml saline), total volume 3.5 ml intrathecal. otal

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: ASA physical status I & II Weight between 45 70 kg Patients scheduled for elective infraumbilical surgeries under spinal anesthesia

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patient refusal Sepsis or infection at puncture site Severe systemic illness (renal, hepatic, cardiac, respiratory) Raised intracranial tension Coagulopathy Allergy to study drugs Failed spinal block

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Time to first rescue analgesia. Total number of rescue analgesic doses in first 24 hours.Timepoint: Assessed at regular intervals up to 24 hours postoperatively.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. Onset of sensory block. 2. Duration of sensory block. 3. Onset and duration of motor block. 4. Hemodynamic variables(HR, BP, Spo2) 5. Sedation score 6. VAS pain score 7. OutcomeTimepoint: 1. From injection to T10 level. 2. Till regression to S1 dermatome. 3. Assessed intraoperatively and postoperatively. 4. Baseline, every 5min intraop, then hourly for 6 hours. 5. Intraoperative and postoperative(upto 24hrs) 6. 0,2,4,6,12,24 hrs postoperatively. 7. Throughout intraoperative and 24hrs postoperative period.
