Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients aged between 18-65 years belonging to either sex 2. Patients with acetabular fractures amenable to fixation by posterior [Kocher Langenbeck] approach
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Patient with acetabular fractures necessitating the use of an anterior approach 2. Patients with concomitant head or spinal cord injury 3. Patients with history of smoking, alcohol or drug abuse 4. Patients with inflammatory arthropathy, metabolic bone disease or taking any drugs which affect bone turnover and calcium homeostasis
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| This study aims to identify serum bone turnover markers and gene expression patterns of TGF-beta and BMP-2 isoforms that predict heterotopic ossification (HO) after acetabular fracture fixation. A validated biomarker panel may allow early risk stratification and timely prophylaxis. The findings could support minimally invasive diagnostics and targeted therapies, improving outcomes, reducing complications, and enhancing quality of life in pelvic-acetabular trauma patients.Timepoint: Time line Baseline (Day 0) At admission or pre-operative Post-op Week 1 Post-op Week 6 Post-op Week 12 (3 months) Post-op Week 24 (6 months) Post-op Week 36 (9 months) optional, if resources allow Post-op Week 52 (12 months / 1 year) final evaluation | — |
