Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All children admitted to the PICU who are invasively ventilated with pressure control, pressure-regulated volume control, volume control, or pressure support ventilation.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Children with an Endotracheal tube leak of ten percent or above. On high-frequency oscillatory ventilation. On CPAP ventilation. Children with neuromuscular disorders and Malignancy.

MeasureTime frame
To determine the correlation of the ratio of dead space volume to tidal volume ( Physiological VD/Vt) measured using volumetric capnography with the alveolar dead space fraction (AVDSF) measured using time-based capnography. Timepoint: To determine the correlation of the ratio of dead space volume to tidal volume ( Physiological VD/Vt) measured using volumetric capnography with the alveolar dead space fraction (AVDSF) measured using time-based capnography.

Association of AVDSF measured by time-based capnography vs volumetric based capnography with factor associated with ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI) (mechanical power, driving pressure, plateau pressure, and if possible strain). Timepoint: initial 3 days of ventilation;Association of AVDSF measured by time-based capnography vs volume-based capnography such as 28-day ventilator-free days, length of PICU stay and mortality.Timepoint: 28 days
