Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Cases Group 1: Children aged between 6 months-59 months with moderate acute malnutrition (weight for length/height Z-score between -3 to -2 and/or mid-upper-arm circumference between 11.5-12.5 cm) Group 2: Children aged between 6 months-59 months with moderate acute malnutrition (weight for length/height Z-score between less than -3Z and/or mid-upper-arm circumference between less than 11.5) Comparison Group: Children aged between 6 months-59 months with no undernutrition (weight for length/height Z-score between -1 to +1 and/or mid-upper-arm circumference more than 12.5 cms)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Children with suspected or confirmed inborn error of metabolism or primary carnitine deficiency 2. Children on carnitine supplementation 3. Children with confirmed or suspected chronic kidney, chronic liver disease cardiomyopathy congenital heart disease and congenital malformation
