Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Females aged 20 to 25 years residing in Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Thane district, belonging to middle income group. participants should be following vegetarian or nonvegetarian diet for at least one year. must be willing to share dietary information and provide informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Pregnant and lactating women, individuals on iron supplements, those with chronic infections in the past six months (e.g., tuberculosis, malaria), and individuals with non-communicable diseases such as diabetes mellitus, kidney disorders, or liver disorders

MeasureTime frame
To assess and compare the average dietary iron intake (total, heme, and non-heme) among vegetarian and non-vegetarian females aged 20 25 years, across different BMI categories and socio-economic statuses.Timepoint: Dietary iron intake will be assessed once at baseline, using the 3-Day Dietary Record, Food Frequency Questionnaire, and Minimum Dietary Diversity for Women (MDD-W).

MeasureTime frame
To evaluate the influence of dietary enhancers (vitamin C, vitamin A) & inhibitors (phytates, polyphenols, calcium, tea/coffee) on iron bioavailability.Timepoint: These factors will be assessed once at baseline, at the time of dietary assessment using the 3-Day Dietary Record (3DDR) & Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ).
