Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Adults aged 18-65 years 2. Scheduled for elective unilateral open hernia repair surgery 3. ASA physical status I-II 4. Written informed consent

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Emergency surgery 2. Allergy to local anaesthetics 3. Presence of coagulopathy 4. Infection at block site 5. Pre-existent neuromuscular disease, chronic opioid use. 6. Pregnancy or breastfeeding

To evaluate the correlation between skin-to-fascia distance (SFD) and duration of postoperative analgesia following an ultrasound-guided TAP block in adults scheduled for elective inguinal hernia repair.Timepoint: Baseline, 15 mins, 30mins, 1 hour, 2 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours

MeasureTime frame
To evaluate the relationship between SFD & time taken for block placement (insertion of needle to removal of needle after injection of drug).Timepoint: Baseline at the time of needle insertion, after block placement when needle is removed after drug injection;To evaluate the relationship between SFD & total rescue analgesic requirement within 24 hours postoperatively.Timepoint: Baseline, 24 hours;To evaluate pain scores by Numerical Rating Scale or (NRS) at intervals 15 min, 30 min, 1 hr, 2 hrs, 6 hrs & 12 hrs after recession of spinal anaesthesia, as assessed by Bromage score.Timepoint: Baseline, 15 mins, 30 mins, 1 hour, 2 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours;To assess if SFD can predict the time to first analgesic request.Timepoint: Baseline, 24 hours;To document the incidence of block-related complications & their relationship to SFD.Timepoint: Baseline, 24 hours
