Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: All patients (aged more than 18 years) admitted to Kasturba Hospital requesting anaerobic culture from a good quality anaerobic sample. Such acceptable samples include but are not limited to body fluid, cyst fluid aspirate, biopsy or tissue sample, synovial fluid or soft tissue aspirate, and swabs sent in Robertson s cooked meat media.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Superficial wound swabs not sent in Robertson s cooked media/ Thioglycollate media for anaerobic culture. Refrigerated samples. Unacceptable samples including but not limited to throat/nasopharyngeal swabs, sputum, Endotracheal tube aspirate, gastric lavage, urine or genitourinary specimens. Duplicate samples of the patient.
