Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Age 18 to 70 years. 2. Patients diagnosed with delirium based on CAM-ICU score and RASS score for sub-types of delirium 3. Patients requiring ICU admission for medical or surgical emergencies requiring NIV and who are delirious (including those who were previously intubated/ on HFNO/ COT but currently requiring NIV)
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Exclusion Criteria: 1. Patients who could not be reliably assessed for delirium owing to blindness, deafness, inability to speak 2. Patients diagnosed with delirium previously when on mechanical ventilation 3. History of substance abuse 4. Patient requiring continuous sedation/ analgesics or on any anti-cholinergics/ benzodiazepines 5. Patients at high risk for pre-existing cognitive deficits owing to neurodegenerative disease (on the basis of a score of 3.3 or more on the Short Informant Questionnaire on Cognitive Decline in the Elderly) 6. Diagnosed case of psychotic disorder or on any psychiatric medication/ Benzodiazepines/ 7. Suspected anoxic brain injury 8. Stroke or traumatic brain injury 9. Uraemic encephalopathy 10. Hepatic encephalopathy 11. Any contraindications to NIV
