Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The experimental group included thirty-five individuals with maxillary constriction, defined by an interpalatal molar width smaller than thirty-four point nine two millimeters and an IPMW to intercanine width ratio around one point one five to one. They had maxillary arch deficiency, a V-shaped deep palate, and unilateral or bilateral posterior crossbite or crowding, requiring maxillary expansion. The control group had thirty-five individuals with normal maxillary dimensions, defined by an interpalatal molar width greater than thirty-seven point four five millimeters and an IPMW to intercanine width ratio near one to one. They had well-aligned arches without crowding, spacing, attrition, or interproximal caries

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The exclusion criteria for the experimental group included any history of cleft lip, cleft palate, craniofacial syndrome, or prior orthodontic or otolaryngologic treatment. Exclusion criteria for control group included any history of orthodontic, prosthodontic, or otolaryngologic treatment.
