Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All ICU patients of 18 to 60 years of age Any gender Respiratory rate more than 25 breaths/min Moderate to severe acidosis (pH 7.25 to 7.30) PaCO2 45 to 60 mmHg PaO2/FiO2 more than 100

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Intubation requirement before recruitment for the study Hypercarbic respiratory insufficiency (PaCO2 more than 60 mmHg and PaO2 by FiO2 less than or equal to 100) Hemodynamic compromise Cardiac arrest Septic shock Patient not able to protect airway (GCS 3 by 15) Impaired mental status Extubated patients Severe acidosis (pH less than 7.2) Morbidly obese

To compare PaO2 by FiO2 ratio between different flow settings of high flow nasal cannulaTimepoint: Every 4 hours till weaning from High flow nasal cannula
