Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: a.medically healthy adult b. non-smoker c. hopeless anterior tooth with neighbouring teeth on the mesial and distal intact buccal periodontal tissues as far as preoperatively diagnosable d. any periodontal phenotype (thin, normal or thick) e. single immediate implant in the maxilla using socket shield f. good oral hygiene g. written informed consent

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: a.teeth with present/past periodontal disease b.teeth with vertical root fractures on the buccal aspect c. teeth with horizontal fractures at/below bone level d. teeth with any other pathologies affecting the buccal part of the root, for example, external or internal resorptions, except apical pathology e. patients who are pregnant, intending to conceive or breast feeding f. no written informed consent
