This study looks at people who had their thyroid removed and low parathyroid hormone levels after surgery. It compares giving calcium and vitamin D supplements to everyone right away versus only to those with symptoms, aiming to find which approach better supports recovery and hormone balance.

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients more than 18yrs of age undergoing total thyroidectomy with skin closure PTH level more than 15 pg/ml and pre-operative serum calcium more than 10.5mg/dl.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - patient with pre-operative serum calcium more than 10.5 mg/dl. - Patients with coexisting parathyroid pathology. - Chronic renal impairment - Patients on oral calcium and calcitriol supplementation. - Pregnant and lactating females - unwilling to participate.
