Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The government and private schools, junior colleges in the Udupi district of Karnataka will be included in the study. Participants who meet the eligibility requirements must provide their consent and live in the research area for the full year following recruitment, with no plans to relocate. The study will specifically include students in grades 5 through 10, as well as their parents and teachers under the age of 65, junior college students. Who are attending both Government, Private schools and junior colleges in Coastal regions of Karnataka. Should satisfactorily pass health screening for safely participating in PA using the Physical Activity Readiness for Everyone (PAR- Q). Those participants (both students and their parents or legal guardians if they are minors) who provide informed consent to participate in the study. Participants should be free of any serious medical illnesses or dietary restrictions that would impair their ability to maintain healthy eating habits.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: General practitioner s medical diagnosis of obesity due to metabolic and endocrine disease, or to medications (e.g., psychotropic pharmacology). Current treatment for psychiatric disorders. Unable to attend twice-weekly sessions at the designated intervention locations. Report by potential participants that they have been assessed as unsafe or unfit to participate by a general practitioner or paediatrician. Potential subjects, participating in another structured exercise programme.

Design outcomes

MeasureTime frame
Physical activity- International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), Physical Activity Questionnaire for Children (PAQ-C) and Adolescents (PAQ-A). Muscle strength- Muscle strength of bilateral upper and lower limbs will be assessed using a Handheld dynamometer. Muscle strength of bilateral upper limbs will be assessed using a Hand dynamometer. Muscle endurance- Break test for the Biceps muscle will be used to assess the endurance of the upper limb. Full squat test will be used to assess the muscle strength of the lower limb. Vital parameters- Respiratory rate, heart rate and blood pressure Cardiorespiratory Fitness- Shuttle run test Screen time assessment: SCREEN-Q questionnaire. Body composition- Bioelectrical Impedance Analyzer Diet and nutrition- Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), 24-hour dietary recall (24HR), DietCal. Substance abuse- ASSIST questionnaire Quality of life: WHOQOL-BREF Timepoint: baseline, 3 months, 6 months
