Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients of age 60 years and above. Undergoing surgery under general anaesthesia. American Society of Anaesthesiologists (ASA) classes 1 and 2.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients undergoing surgery involving the upper limb. Deformity or fracture of the upper limb. Pre-existing neuromuscular disease or pulmonary diseases. Severe cognitive impairment.

MeasureTime frame
To Determine the muscle strength recovery using a dynamometer by comparing the immediate post operative muscle strength till it reaches baseline to the pre operative baseline valueTimepoint: 15, 30, 45, 60,120,180 and 240 minutes after extubation

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To correlate muscle strength recovery with frail score. To correlate changes in muscle strength with respiratory function using peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR). To evaluate the association between muscle strength and demographic variables (age, gender, BMI). Timepoint: 15, 30, 45, 60, 120, 180 and 240 minutes after extubation
