Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.Patients between age group of 18 to 50 years 2.Meets DSM5 criteria for single or recurrent nonpsychotic MDD 3. Hamilton Depression Rating Scale HAMD greater than 7 to less than 17. 4. Capacity to consent will be evaluated using UBACC scale.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: .Suicidal ideation with intent in the prior year according to CSSRS (Gipson et al., 2015) 2.Already on any medication for depression. 3.History of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, substance abuse or dependence (except tobacco), OCD or any other axis-1 psychiatric disorder 4.Any major neurological disorder and other severe medical comorbidities 5.Pregnancy or lactation 6. Use of probiotics, antibiotics, immunomodulators, or gastrointestinal (GI) medicines in the last three one month. 7. Patient diagnosed with of GI disorders, endocrine disorders, or immunological conditions.
