Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients of age group between 14 to 60 yrs of either gender. Patients undergoing thoracotomy for cardiothoracic surgery.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Extremes of age. Patients posted for CABG. Patients with surgery time more than 5 hrs & CPB time more than 90 mins. Patients unwilling to participate in the study. Patients with NYHA Class more than 3 Patients requiring re intubation. Patients requiring ICU stay for more than 5 days.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To assess the time to extubation following surgery in the two groups.Timepoint: 5 days or until patient is extubated

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To compare the total consumption of opioids in the two group. To assess the post extubation pain control between the groups. To assess hemodynamic fluctuations at the time of thoracotomy.Timepoint: 5 days
