Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.Age more than 18 years, of either gender, 2.Patients on at least 48 hours of invasive mechanical ventilation. 3.Patients who underwent a spontaneous breathing trial and subsequently extubated as per standard protocols.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Patients with unplanned extubation 2.Poor ultrasound window 3.History of neuromuscular disease 4.Chest wall deformities 5.Known diaphragmatic palsy 6.Any contraindication to extubation

The predictive profile of presence of diaphragm dysfunction (ultrasound assessed, continuous or new onset) at 2 hours after extubating ICU patients in estimating subsequent extubation failure rate within first 48 hrs. post-extubation.Timepoint: For first 48 hours post extubation

MeasureTime frame
The predictive profile of presence of diaphragm dysfunction (ultrasound assessed) immediately and at 6 hours extubating ICU patients in estimating subsequent extubation failure rate within first 48 hrs. post-extubation.Timepoint: For first 48 hours post extubation;The predictive profile of presence of diaphragm dysfunction (ultrasound assessed) immediately, 2 hrs. and 6 hrs. after extubating ICU patients in estimating subsequent need of NIV/HFNC within first 48 hrs. post-extubation.Timepoint: For first 48 hours post extubation;The outcome parameters with respect to presence of diaphragmatic dysfunction in ICU patients.Timepoint: For upto 14 days post extubation or death or discharge whichever occurs earlier
