Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. ASA Grade 1, 2 and 3 2. Patients in whom the Right IJV cannot be cannulated due to presence of thrombus, infective foci, significantly stenosis or due to previous surgery on the right side.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Patient refusal 2.Patient with unstable neck injuries 3.Thrombocytopenia 4.Coagulopathy 5.Local infection 6.Raised intracranial pressure 7.Patient non-compliance

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
1.The total access time, which is the time taken from initial skin puncture to proper placement of the guidewire into the vein. 2.The number of attempts required to successfully cannulate the IJVTimepoint: Time from start of procedure till successful placement of central venous catheter.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Compare the two methods with respect to: 1.The success rate 2.The side effects 3.Haemodynamic parametersTimepoint: Time from start of procedure till 24 hours post procedure
