Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Men between 18 and 45 years are generally considered ideal candidates for semen analysis. This is because sperm quality is often optimal within this age range. Individuals younger than 18 years or those under the legal age of adulthood may not be typically included unless under special circumstances, such as medical conditions affecting fertility. Older men (above 45 years) may still undergo semen analysis, but sperm quality can decline with age, particularly in terms of sperm count, motility, and DNA integrity. Older men are sometimes excluded from studies that require a more consistent sperm quality.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Men under 18 years: Typically excluded unless there is a specific medical need, such as assessing fertility in adolescents with certain health conditions. Men over 45 years: While older men may still be included in semen analysis, age-related declines in sperm quality (lower sperm count, motility, and higher DNA fragmentation) may require special consideration. Some studies may exclude men over 45 to maintain uniformity in results.
