Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Males and females Age range 15-30 years Critical anchorage Class I Bi-maxillary protrusion cases; and Class II Div 1 malocclusion cases with ANB less than 5 degrees. Patients requiring bilateral extraction of maxillary 1st premolar as part of their comprehensive treatment. Full development of teeth except 3rdmolars. Good gingival and periodontal health (probing depth less than 3mm, gingival index score less than 1, plaque index less than 1) No history of periodontal therapy No current active periodontal disease No systemic disease No endodontic lesions No dilaceration of canine roots as assessed on pre-treatment OPG No radiographic evidence of bone loss
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Extreme skeletal class II (Overjet more than 10 mm, ANB more than 5 degrees) Class III cases Clotting or bleeding disorders. Long term use of antibiotics, phenytoin, cyclosporine, anti-inflammatory drugs, systemic corticosteroids and calcium channel blockers. Smokers, alcoholism Pregnancy Systemic disease or medications intake that interfere with orthodontic tooth movement. History of previous orthodontic treatment. Crossbite or deviation during jaw closure caused by occlusal interferences. Patient with severe tooth displacement (eg. ectopic canine) Evidence of bone loss Any occlusal interference Skeletal crossbite One sided chewing Presence of any parafunctional habit Signs and symptoms of periodontal disease. Gingival inflammation. (gingivitis) Poor oral hygiene for more than or equal to 2 visits. Past periodontal disease Probing depth more than 4mm in any tooth Dental caries.
