Conditions

Health Condition 1: K088- Other specified disorders of teethand supporting structures

Interventions

Intervention1: V-bend mechanics: Mesialization of mandibular molar on 019 X 025 inch SS archwire. V bend will be placed in gingival direction distal to the bracket of tooth mesial to extraction space.

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1)Age greater than 14 years to minimize the effects of growth. 2)Space present due to any of the below mentioned condition and treatment plan involves mandibular molar mesialization of 4 mm or more. a.History of missing or extracted mandibular first molars b.Treatment plan involving extraction of mandibular first molar due to poor endodontic prognosis. c.Congenitally missing mandibular second premolar with/without retained deciduous second molars and treatment plan involves extraction of deciduous second molars. 3)No signs of spontaneous mesial posterior tooth movement due to exfoliation of the deciduous second molar on the agenesis site. 4)Healthy periodontium at the start of the treatment. 5)No tooth size arch length discrepancy.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1)Missing or extracted mandibular second molars. 2)Grossly decayed mandibular second molars. 3)Patients who had received prosthetic treatment for the missing teeth. 4)History of previous orthodontic treatment. 5)History of trauma to the mandibular incisors 6)Significant dental pathology affecting anterior teeth, such as root resorption, cysts and tumours, periodontal diseases, and deep caries. 7)Patients with systemic diseases, cleft lip and palate and other craniofacial abnormalities 8)Patient who is undertaking treatment for any disease or under medication which can affect tooth movement.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To assess the external apical root resorption and root volume changes of mandibular anterior teeth after mandibular molar mesialization with V-Bend mechanics using cone beam computed tomography.Timepoint: Pre-mesialization (T0) Post-mesialization (T1)

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. To evaluate the changes in alveolar crestal bone height in mandibular anterior teeth after mandibular molar mesialization with V-Bend mechanics using cone beam computed tomography. 2.To evaluate the changes in alveolar bone thickness in the mid root and the apical levels of mandibular anteriors after mandibular molar mesialization with V-Bend mechanics using cone beam computed tomography. Timepoint: Pre-mesialization (T0) Post-mesialization (T1)
