Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.Patients in the age group of 18-65 years. 2.Patients admitted to the critical care unit requiring assessment of intravascular volume status.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Participants of age less than 18 years and more than 65 years. 2.presence of thrombus in IJV, history of previous IJV cannulation. 3.Those who are not willing to participate. 4. Patients with cardiac diseases, renal diseases,Diabetic ketoacidosis,alcohol intoxication,mitochondrial diseases, pregnancy,radiotherapy or surgeries or mass of the neck and chest. 5.Patients on mechanical ventilation.

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To determine the correlation between internal jugular vein collapsibility, measured using bedside ultrasonography, and serum lactate levels as markers of intravascular volume status.Timepoint: 15 minutesBefore fluid resuscitation,15 minutes after fluid resuscitation.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To assess the agreement between internal jugular vein collapsibility & traditional methods of volume assessment, such as mean arterial pressure. To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of internal jugular vein collapsibility in identifying hypovolemia & volume overload. To identify any potential limitations or challenges associated with the use of internal jugular vein collapsibility as a marker of intravascular volume status & its correlation with serum lactate levels. survival of the the patientTimepoint: 15 minutes Before fluid resuscitation,15 minutes after fluid resuscitation,survival at 5 days or at the time of shifting the patient out of ICU.
