Intervention1: Injection Dexmedetomidine: Infusion of intravenous dexmedetomidine 0.5 microgram/kg over 10 minutes will be given when the surgeon puts the last suture and incidence of emergence cough

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Elective surgeries under general anaesthesia with endotracheal tube intubation 2. American Society of Anaesthesiologists (ASA) physical status grade I and grade II of either gender 3. Patients age between 18 years and 60 years of age

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Known case of bronchial asthma / chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and restrictive lung disease / New York Heart Association heart failure grades III and IV 2. Active upper respiratory tract infection 3. Deranged Liver Function Test and Renal Function Test 4. Difficult Airway or Difficult Ventilation or Difficult Laryngoscopy 5. History of allergy to the study drugs 6. Patients on beta blockers / angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors 7. Pregnancy and lactation 8. Patient with psychiatric illness

Values of mean arterial pressure, systolic and diastolic blood pressure and heart rate will be recorded and extubation time will be notedTimepoint: Mean arterial pressure, systolic and diastolic blood pressure and heart rate just before and 1 min, 2 min, 3 min, 5 min, 10 min and 15 min after the administration of the study drug Recording of relative extubation time from the delivery of test drug to extubation
