Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Comfort with using a smartphone app;Able to speak /read/write English or Kannada;10 years or more of formal education; Self-report of depressive or anxiety symptoms for at least two weeks;Scoring above cut off on a standardized measure of distress (K-10)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Not amenable to participate in the study as assessed in the brief telephonic interview; Significant suicidal ideations as determined by responses on the two items developed by the research team pertaining to frequency and controllability of suicidal thoughts in the past one month;Currently receiving medical treatment for any mental health condition;Having undergone 3 or more psychotherapy /counseling sessions for a mental health concern in the last 3 months/currently seeking counseling/psychotherapy services;Using any other mental health app currently as per self-report
