Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: ASA Status 1-3, BMI 20-40kg/m2, undergoing elective gynaecological surgery for adnexal/pelvic mass with or without ascites under general anaesthesia, having followed institutional fasting guidelines

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Refusal to participate, history of gastric or oesophageal malignancy, any condition associated with gastroparesis, BMI more than 40, ASA 4, those who are not able to lie still or in right lateral decubitus position for ultrasound assessment

Antral cross sectional area using bed side ultrasonography in fasted patients of gynaecological malignancies after following ERAS based fasting guidelinesTimepoint: after 6 hours of overnight fasting

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Blood sugar level before ingestion and 2 hours after ingestion of maltodextrinTimepoint: 2 hours;Antral cross sectional area using ultrasonography post ingestion of maltodextrin drinkTimepoint: 5 minute post ingestion to 2 hours post ingestion;Rate of clearance of maltodextrin between groupsTimepoint: 2 hours
