Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.Patient fulfilling the diagnostic criteria according to ACR diagnostic guidelines of Osteoarthritis of the knee.14 2.Patient presenting with any one of the diagnostic symptoms of Janusandhigata Vata – Janusandhi Shola(pain), Shopha(swelling), Stabdhatha(stiffness), Atopa (crepitus), Vatapoorna Druti Sparsha (which is palpable as air filled bag) and Prasarana Akunchanayoh Vedana (pain during extension and flexion of the joint).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Complications of OA like Pseudogout,Spontaneous Osteonecrosis of the knee. 2.Any other systemic disorders which interfere with the treatment. 3.Pregnant and lactating women.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
1.Sandhi shula (pain) 2.Atopa (crepitus) 3.Stabdata (Stiffness) 4.Visual Pain Analogue Scale (VAS). 5.WOMAC-Index for osteoarthritis. Timepoint: 15 days

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. Shopha (Swelling) Joint measurements – Girth of joint measured by measuring tape. 2. Range of movement of joints- accessed by using Goniometer. 3. Functional ability: a. Walking – time required to cover 50 meters in seconds. b. Squatting – time required to do 5 sit-ups in seconds. c. Climbing stairs – time required to climb 10 steps in seconds. Timepoint: 15 days
