Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Adult patients with suspected pre-malignant or oral squamous cell carcinoma lesions.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) Oral lesions with overt secondary infection. 2) Recurrent cases undergoing recent surgery or radiotherapy. 3) Patients who will deny consent. 4) Histologically diagnosed cases of non-squamous cell malignant or pre malignant lesions.

To evaluate the micronuclear frequency in buccal smear of oral potentially malignant disorders and suspected oral squamous cell carcinoma lesions and to detect its association with histopathological dysplasia, p53 and p16 expressionTimepoint: Month 14

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. To estimate the proportion of patients showing dysplasia and micronuclear frequency in collected buccal smears. 2. To evaluate the histopathological diagnosis of the biopsy specimens. 3. To find out IHC interpretation of OSCC and dysplastic oral potentially malignant disorders using p53 and p16 markers. 4. To correlate micronuclear frequency with cytological as well as histological dysplasia and IHC findings. Timepoint: Month 14
