Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Gestation age more than or equal to 37 weeks, if not ascertainable admission weight of more than 1800g. 2. Birth Asphyxia defined as slow gasping breathing or no breathing at 1 minute of age or APGAR score of 7 or less at 1 minute 3. Neonates with HIE as per Thompson scoring system 4. Physiologically stable babies 5. Tolerating Nasogastric feeds of more than or equal to 30 ml/kg/day for 12-24 hours. 6. Babies with postnatal age of less than or equal to 14 days of life.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Major congenital malformation requiring alteration in feeding schedule. 2. Intracranial Haemorrhage. 3. Meningitis or encephalitis. 4. Babies whose mother is not available for breast feeds
