Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients of either sex in the age range of 18-65years undergoing elective spine surgery under general anaesthesia.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with any brain pathology such as tumour, brain abscess, traumatic brain injury (TBI) Patients with coronary artery disease(CAD), renal or hepatic insufficiency Known psychiatric disorders or on antipsychotic/ antidepressants medications. Allergy to the study drug i.e ketamine. Patients with coronary artery disease, ischemic stroke, hemodynamically unstable patients. Inability to obtain adequate TCD window. Pregnant or lactating patient. Refusal to participate in the study.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The study’s primary outcome will be a measurement of the Transient Hyperemic Response Ratio(THRR).Timepoint: It will be measured at the 5-minute interval after administration of induction and infusion dose of Ketamine.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Measurement of middle cerebral artery’s systolic, diastolic & mean flow velocity (FVs,FVd, FVm). Measurement of compression ratio(CR), pulsatility index (PI). Timepoint: Measurement of velocities (FVs,FVd, FVm) will be measured at the time of per-induction, post-induction, after 5 minutes & after 10 minutes. Measurement of systemic hemodynamics- Heart rate(HR), Systolic,Diastolic & Mean Blood Pressure (SBP,DBP,MBP) per-induction, & every 2 minutes till the end of the study period.
