Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: All consecutive consenting adult patients of either gender, between 18-65 years of age, undergoing lower limb surgeries below knee under popliteal sciatic nerve block will be included in this trial
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: We will exclude patients from this trial if patient has history of allergy to local anesthetics, Patients who are pre operatively on opioids, Patient with coagulopathies or on anticoagulant therapy, infection at the injection site and significant cardiopulmonary disease
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| The primary objective of this trial is to evaluate the efficacy of cross-wise approach of popliteal sciatic nerve block (C) over posterior approach (P) using ultrasound in patients undergoing below knee surgeries (i.e. Onset of the sensory and motor blockade in minutes)Timepoint: The primary objective i.e. Onset of the sensory and motor blockade in both the groups will be assessed from the time of administration of block till every minute until the full sensory and motor blockade effect is achieved in minutes for the surgical anesthesia | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| Duration of block (hrs.) using NRS scale: Transducer used: Curvilinear or Linear probe Distance of the probe from popliteal crease: Distance of the sciatic nerve from skin: Popliteal vessel visibility: Yes or No Post-block LA around both the divisions visible: Yes or No Patient comfort during the procedure: Visibility score of popliteal sciatic nerve: No. of redirections & attempts of the needle during the procedure Complications during the procedure Timepoint: Duration of block: assessed post procedure 24 hrs other following parameters will be assessed during the intervention: Transducer used,Distance of the probe from popliteal crease, distance of the sciatic nerve from skin,Popliteal vessel visibility,Post-block LA visibility around the divisions,Patient comfort, Visibility score of popliteal sciatic nerve, No. of redirections & attempts. Complications will be noted during & after the procedure. | — |
