Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: This study includes children aged 6 months to 18 years undergoing CBC studies in the Department of Paediatrics in Kasturba Hospital, Manipal.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1.Children with known thalassemia or other hemoglobinopathies 2.Children who underwent blood transfusion within the last 3 months of evaluation 3.Children undergoing chemotherapy. 4.Children with known blood cancer, ITP and other blood disorders. 5.Children who are a known case of Iron deficiency anaemia. 6.Children whose parents did not respond to calls or could not be contacted. 7.Children whose parents deny consent for haemoglobin electrophoresis

| 1. Study of all children whose Mentzer index is less than or equal to 13 and to study the prevalence of thalassemia trait among them by confirming with electrophoresis 2. To study the hemoglobin level among two groups those whose Mentzer index is less than or equal to 13 and those whose electrophoresis is suggestive of Thalassemia trait. Timepoint: At discharge for IP patients and during follow up for OPD children recruited under the study after consent | — |
