Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Adult patients requiring peripheral venous cannulation prior to surgery Age between 20-60 years ASA-PS I and II Able to understand and report pain according to visual analogue scale (VAS)
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Patients unable to communicate verbally. Lignocaine allergy Patient already receiving analgesic medications within last 24 hours Patients with needle phobia Extreme anxiety Unhealthy skin condition at proposed site of venepuncture Patients in whom more than one attempt will be required for venepuncture
