Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Children between 1 month and 18 years of age. 2. Identified as ARDS case as per Second Pediatric Acute Lung Injury Consensus Conference (PALICC-2) guidelines and needing invasive mechanical ventilation. 3. Readmission of the same patient will be counted as a separate case. 4. Only the patients whose parents/ legally acceptable representatives who will show willingness for including their child/ward in the study will be included in this study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Premature birth with corrected age less then 1-month. 2. Cyanotic heart disease and/or chronic lung disease not meeting definition of ARDS as per Second Pediatric Acute Lung Injury Consensus Conference (PALICC-2). 3. chronic kidney disease with fluid overload status. 4. Children needing HFOV (High frequency oscillatory ventilation) within 24 hr of admission. 5. Children expiring within 24 hours of admission.

Primary objective: To study the association between mechanical power and outcome in children with ARDS on invasive mechanical ventilation: 1 Mortality 2 Ventilator free day 3 Length of stay in intensive care unit. Timepoint: Readings at zero hours on inclusion in study and worst will be considered while determining the association/ correlation.

Association between mechanical power normalized to respiratory system compliance and predicted body weight, and outcome variables (Mortality, ventilator free days and length of stay in ICU)Timepoint: Readings at zero hours on inclusion in study and worst will be considered while determining the association/ correlation.
