Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients with deep carious lesions involving pulp having symptomatic irreversible pulpitis with symptomatic apical periodontitis in mandibular permanent first molars 2. Patients with healthy teeth proximal and distal to the diseased tooth 3. Patients with healthy tooth contralateral to the diseased tooth and healthy tooth distal to the contralateral symmetrical tooth were included

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria was patients who were unable to communicate and give informed consent history of significant medical problem ASA III or greater teeth with periapical radiolucency persistent use of antidepressants narcotics or sedatives or analgesic intake within 24 hours.
