Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Preterm neonates admitted to NICU during the study period of gestational age 26 to 36+6/7 weeks, who have received invasive mechanical ventilation, surfactant atherapy and then extubated to non-invasive respiratory support (NIPPV or NCPAP).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1)major congenital malformation 2)extubation failure within 24hrs requiring reintubation 3)neonatal sepsis 4)inotropic support in last 24 hrs 5)moderate to severe HIE 6)haemodynamically significant PDA 7)moderate to severe pulmonary hypertension

To compare the right ventricular systolic and diastolic functions in preterm infants on NIPPV versus NCPAP, 4-6 hours and 18-24 hours after extubation using Fn ECHO. To compare the left ventricular systolic and diastolic functions in preterm infants on NIPPV versus NCPAP, 4-6 hours and 18-24 hours after extubation using Fn ECHO.
