Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: • Patients diagnosed with Ca Esophagus (squamous cell carcinoma morphology) above 18 years of age irrespective of stage of the disease. • Preoperative biopsy tissues or tissues from the postoperative specimens

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: . Age 80 years. . Other morphological types of Esophageal carcinoma . Patients with ECOG PS >2 (in patients planned for curative resection) . Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The primary objective is to study the expression of melatonin MT1 and MT2 receptors in the Ca esophagus. The expected outcome of the study is to establish the expression pattern of melatonin receptors MT1 and MT2 in carcinoma of the esophagus and to determine their correlation with the tumor grade. Overall, the study aims to provide insight into the potential of melatonin as a therapeutic agent as well as a prognostic marker for esophageal cancer.Timepoint: 0-4 MONTHS: procurement of consumables 5-18 MONTHS: collection of tissue samples and implementation of the lab procedures. 18-24 months: Analysis and compilation of results, writing the manuscript and presentation.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Studying the expression of melatonin MT1 & MT2 receptors by Immunohistochemistry & tissue ELISA & comparing their expression patterns with the tumor grade.Timepoint: 0-4 MONTHS: procurement of consumables 5-18 MONTHS: collection of tissue samples & implementation of the lab procedures. 18-24 months: Analysis & compilation of results, writing the manuscript & presentation.
