Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: -Patients of either sex and all ages -Patients who are clinically diagnosed with acanthosis nigricans attending Dermatology OPD at Bharati hospital

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: -Patients with previously diagnosed type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus -Patients with known endocrinopathies and those with skin disorders known to be associated with Metabolic Syndrome (psoriasis, lichen planus, polycystic ovarian syndrome) will not be included in the study -Patients who are pregnant or lactating

MeasureTime frame
To determine the association of insulin resistance in acanthosis nigricans patients Timepoint: At the time of recruitment of study participant will be advised serum fasting blood glucose and serum fasting insulin levels

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To calculate prevalence insulin resistance in patients presenting with acanthosis nigricans. Timepoint: After completion of recruitment of study participants;To correlate insulin resistance with severity of lesions using scoring scale for acanthosis nigricans by Burke et al. Timepoint: After completion of recruitment of study participants;To study the association of insulin resistance with BMI according to WHO classificationTimepoint: After completion of recruitment of study participants
