Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: -Anticipated ICU stay of at least 7 days -Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score= 8 at the time of enrollment

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with any known neuro-muscular diseases, such as myopathy, multiple sclerosis, or paraplegia 2. Amputated lower limbs 3. Patients with surgery on lower limbs 4. Patients who have been transferred from another hospital after a stay of 48 hours 5. Presence of tracheostomy on admission 6. History of ICU admission for at least 7 days in the last 3 months
