Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: adults aged 18 to 65 years undergoing elective surgeries under general anaesthesia requiring controlled mechanical ventilation with American Society of Anaesthesiologists grade 1 and 2

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Induction requiring rapid sequence intubation 2. Patients with dressing/ scars/ beard/ raw area over face/ intra oral or pharyngeal masses

To compare two handed C-E technique & the modified thenar eminence technique for mask ventilation by its efficacy in maintaining expired tidal volumeTimepoint: The average of five breaths at end of 30 seconds will be used in the statistical analysis of expired tidal volume for each technique

To compare two handed C-E technique & the modified thenar eminence technique for mask ventilation by its efficacy in maintaining 1. mean airway pressure 2. mean etCO2 3. ease of ventilation according to Likert scaleTimepoint: The average of five breaths at end of 30 seconds will be used in the statistical analysis of mean airway pressure & etCO2. Ease of ventilation sore will also be assessed between the two techniques using the Likert scale (easy-1, moderate-2 & difficult-3)
