Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: ASA 1,2 and 3 patients presenting for emergency exploratory laparotomy for various indications at emergency theatre at Govt medical college Thiruvananthapuram

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. ASA 4 and above 2. Patients on inotropic support or vasopressors for maintaining mean arterial pressure > 65mHg pressure in whom propofol induction is relatively contraindicated 3. Patients with decompensated heart disease or heart failure 4. Patients with heart rate >140/ min or 5. Anaphylaxis to propofol/ ephedrine 6. Patient /by stander refusal to participate in the study 7. Patients who are unable to give valid consent due to altered sensorium or under influence of alcohol
