Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All patients above 18 years of age within chosen time-period admitted for elective surgeries under general anaesthesia. ASA class 1, 2 and 3.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients who refuse consent Patients undergoing surgeries of the head and neck, nose and throat. Patients complaining of sore throat, cough or hoarseness of voice prior to surgery. Patients with history of recent upper respiratory tract infection less than two weeks Pregnant women

MeasureTime frame
The details will be obtained from the patients themselves, anaesthesia records, clinical workstation and OP and IP charts. The patient details, demography, pre-existing comorbid conditions, anaesthetic management intra operatively, duration of surgery and post operative management will be documented. During follow up, A grading system will be used to grade the severity of POST, cough and hoarseness of voice. Timepoint: Patients will be followed up at 0,6,12 and 24hrs post extubation. Finally we will analyse the data and determine the factors contributing to an increase or decrease in POST, cough and hoarseness of voice.

Increase in history & severity of COVID associated with increased incidence of POST
