Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. ASA grade I & II 2. Age group of 18-65 years 3. Elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with body mass index (BMI) above 30 kg/m2 2. Acute cholecystitis, pancreatitis or cholangitis 3. Previous open surgery in the upper abdomen 4. Suspected/confirmed common bile duct stones 5. Anxious patient 6. Patients with diagnosed psychological morbidity 7. Presence of contraindications for spinal anaesthesia 8.Inadequate level of sensory block (less than T6) in patients who received spinal anaesthesia 9. Severe systemic disease (ASA III & IV) 10. Known allergy to any drug to be used in the study 11. Conversion to general anaesthesia from spinal anaesthesia due to operative difficulty, anxiety of the patient or pain (shoulder or abdominal) not controlled by analgesic dose of ketamine (0.5 mg/kg). 12. Any contraindication to Arterial Cannulation

To compare partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO2), oxygen (PaO2) and pH of arterial blood of the patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy under general anaesthesia with the patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy under spinal anaesthesia at the beginning of the operation and then at 15 min interval up to one hour or end of the procedure (which ever is earlier)Timepoint: To compare partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO2), oxygen (PaO2) and pH of arterial blood of the patients at baseline, 15 mins, 30 mins, 45 mins, 60 mins

Consumption of post operative analgesic in 1st 24 hoursTimepoint: 24 hours after completion of surgery;Mean arterial pressure and heart rateTimepoint: baseline and then every 5 mins for 1 hour;Patient satisfaction score and surgeon satisfaction scoreTimepoint: 24 hours after surgery completion;To compare oxygen saturation (SpO2) and end tidal carbon dioxide (EtCO2) at 5 min interval upto one hour or end of the procedure (whichever is earlier).Timepoint: baseline, 5, 10,15, 20, 25,30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60 min;To compare the post operative complication like hypotension, hypertension, tachycardia, bradycardia, sore throat, urinary retention, nausea vomiting (PONV) between the two groups.Timepoint: After completion of surgery and after 24 hours
